Celebrating Youth Volunteerism

Call for Nominations

Pebble Tossers wants to recognize outstanding volunteer efforts of our members.  Please nominate kids from age 4-18 to be recognized at our 5th Birthday Party on February 22, 2014 held at the Atlanta Community Food Bank

Recipients of the Pebble Tossers’ Youth of the Year award exemplify the following characteristics:

  • Commitment to community service
  • Leadership ability
  • Compassion and respect for others
  • Humility
  • Fun-loving spirit

This award promotes good citizenship, a desire for the greater good of his/her community, and the development of well-rounded personalities.

2012 Award Recipients:

Categories will be divided into 3 age divisions:  4-9, 10-13, 14-18.  Submit the following:

An essay of no more than 500 words, single-spaced on 8 ½ x 11 paper with one-inch margins and typed in 12-point font.  Or, you  may submit a video that is between 3 and 5 minute long.  The essay and format of the video must answer the following questions: (answers will be evaluated as appropriate for different ages)

1. What is the nominee’s role within the organization where they volunteer?

  • Include any unique motivations regarding the willingness of the nominee to volunteer.

2. What achievements or impact has been made as the direct result of the nominee’s volunteer service to the community?

  • For example, improvement to conditions, services, or the lives of others in the community.

3. Does the nominee provide innovative approaches in their service?

  • List results such as: building community support, generating resources, mobilizing additional volunteers, developing new partnerships, connecting communities and schools, encouraging civic engagement and responsibility.

4. Has the nominee overcome any unique challenges or obstacles to perform this activity?

5. How has the experience impacted the nominee or how has this nominee inspired you to live a more charitable life? If self-nominating, please reflect on and explain this impact.

  • Examples can include: How has your perspective on the project changed? What will you remember most about this experience?  How did the experience make you feel?

Self-nominations (with parent approval if you’re under age 13) and parental nominations are welcome!  All essay submissions must be submitted in the form below by noon February 15, 2014.  Video entries, may be emailed to jguynn@pebbletossers.org after submitting the form below. By submitting the nomination, you agree that all essays, photos, and videos become property of Pebble Tossers, Inc. and can be used on our website or printed materials. Presentation of the award will be during a ceremony at our 5th Birthday party on February 22, 2014.
