Top 10 Volunteer Projects for Summer

We’ve included some of our favorite projects to make it easy for you to take action this summer!  Be sure to tell the volunteer coordinator that you are a Pebble Tosser volunteer!

1: Action Ministries – Smart Kid Smart Lunch – Monday-Friday – Get family & friends together to make lunches and serve them for children who regularly receive free or reduced lunch – Contact Monica Peiffer mpeiffer@actionminstires.net

2: Stop Hunger Now - Stop Hunger Now Volunteer – Monday and Tuesday 3-7 – You will get a tour of the warehouse as well as a brief introduction to Stop Hunger Now and gain a better understanding of what it takes to end world hunger. There are a few things they need help with around warehouse, including washing dishes, sweeping floors, counting out our meals bags, preparing pallets of meals to be shipped out, among many other things. – Contact Kyle Galenski 404.858.4456 kgalenski@stophungernow.org

3: WonderRoot – Wonder Kids Art Class – third Saturday of every month 2-3 – Come and experience art with your child at WonderKids art class, a creative class for children ages 3-12. We explore and discover a variety of mediums in arts and crafts. – Contact Bianca bianca@wonderroot.org

4: Trees Atlanta – Trees Atlanta Service Days – Saturday 9-12 – Join in every Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. – noon for hands-on tree planting, tree care, and forest restoration projects. It’s fun! 5: 7 Bridges to Recovery – every Saturday noon – 4:00 pm – Get the family together to go pass out lunches to the homeless of Atlanta.  Everyone meets at The Garden located at 2840 Plant Atkinson Rd SE, Smyrna, GA (not the Kmart as listed on their website)- contact Melissa 7bridgestorecovery@gmail.com

6: Autrey Mill Nature Preserve – Working with North Fulton Master Gardeners – third Wednesday of every month – be part of keeping Autrey Mill beautiful by working with North Fulton Master Gardeners – Contact Christine Hettinger chettinger@comcast.net

7: Fur Kids – Cat caretaker – Monday – Children younger than 16 are welcome with a parent or guardian present. The Furkids shelter has about 200 cats living in a large, cage-free environment that feels more like a day-care center than an animal shelter. With its brightly colored rooms, cat trees and shelving systems, the shelter provides cats and visitors with a happy and comfortable experience. Responsibilities include working in the rooms to provide the cats with fresh food and water, cleaning litter boxes, and mopping the floors. In addition to cleaning the rooms, there is ample opportunity to engage with the cats by petting and playing with them and providing them with much needed human contact and TLC. – Contact info@furkids.org

8: Fur Kids – Dog caretaker – Wednesday – Children 12-15 years old are welcome with a parent or guardian present. The shelter has about 40 dogs at all times needing love, affection, walks, and baths. The shelter has a bright and cheerful playroom in which we would love children and their families to come visit and socialize. There is ample opportunity to engage with the dogs by petting and playing with them and providing them with much needed human contact and TLC. Children younger than 12 may be able to volunteer at the discretion of the staff if accompanied by a parent or guardian. – Contact info@furkids.org

9: Create Your Dreams – Art Club helpers.  The last Friday of each month, Create Your Dreams host an art club for their elementary aged kids.  Volunteers are needed to bring in art supplies, provide craft ideas and/or supplies, assisting the staff with projects and generally making it a fun afternoon.  Contact Kim Dennis – kim@createyourdreams.org

10: Ronald McDonald House CharitiesBakers and Casserole Clubs – organize your family or a group together to plan a meal to prepare in their kitchens and bring the delicious aroma of homemade treats or dinners for families away from home while their child is receiving treatments.
